Case Study: Pub and Restaurant

Rebuilding the website for The Royal

Here’s an overview of how I supported The Royal in revamping their website. The previous site appeared outdated and overly corporate. To modernise it, I introduced a fresh design and incorporated key functionality, enabling the landlord, Gary, to keep guests updated on upcoming live music events and easily manage regular menu updates.

Developing the website...

I created a bespoke 'Events' system that enables Gary to effortlessly add and update upcoming events, which are seamlessly displayed across the website. Additionally, I implemented a tailored menu-editing system, allowing easy addition, updating, removal, or hiding of individual menu items, with functionality to highlight dishes suitable for various dietary requirements.

To give Gary full control over the website, I integrated our content management system, providing him with direct access. This allows him to update the menu and events, as well as modify the layout and content across the site.

Updating events without the hassle

To promote upcoming live music and other events, Gary requested a streamlined system to quickly and easily add new events, ensuring they are displayed seamlessly across the website.

The process is now straightforward: Gary enters key details, such as the date, description, title, and an image, and the website handles the rest. The next event is prominently featured on the homepage, while the events page lists details of all upcoming events. The system automatically updates, removing completed events without needing to edit anything.

An easy-to-update menu

The menu is a key feature of The Royal’s website. I designed it to be clear, fast-loading, and easy to read, particularly on mobile phones and tablets. It prominently displays dishes that are vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, with options to indicate if these choices are available upon request.

Updating the menu is straightforward, quick, and user-friendly. Dishes can be edited, temporarily hidden, or reordered, with full control over the listing order and menu categories. Every aspect is fully editable, ensuring flexibility for the landlord and his staff.

An easy to use booking form enables customers to make a reservation at the restaurant, for an amazing evening out.
